So, the festival season is at long last under-way, and Sound-Revolution will be kicking things off by covering the first ever Friends of Mine Festival.

Friends of Mine started off as a club night for new bands in Manchester, but for the first year the club night has expanded into a three day festival – set in the beautiful scenery of Capesthorne Hall, Cheshire. The guys behind Friends of Mine have thought carefully about this year’s lineup – with a wide selection of bands from Manchester and the north of England, both new and old.

For a festival in it’s first year, FOM has been receiving a fair amount of praise. Mike Joyce, former drummer of The Smiths, is amongst those excited for the weekend. Joyce called Friends of Mine: “the best line-up I’ve ever seen for a festival.”

With Bad Lieutenant, The Cribs and The Charlatans headlining, FOM Festival has booked some impressive headliners for a small-scale festival – but it isn’t the headliners that seperate Friends of Mine from the rest, it’s the emerging talent lower down the line-up.

With the likes of Yuck, Toro Y Moi, The Heartbreaks, Where’s Strutter and Spokes on the bill, FOM have booked plenty of borderline break-through acts that Sound-Revolution will be keen to check out.

Following the weekend expect to read extended reports and reviews of all going-ons at Friends of Mine 2011, and we’re not just talking about the music.

To get everybody in the mood for Friends of Mine, which will begin to unravel this Friday, here’s a playlist we’ve put together in Spotify.
